Tuesday 11 June 2013. Day 3 Nottingham. Roger & dinner at Ashmore's

It was sprinkling with rain early but it soon stopped to leave a cloudy but warmer day.

We spent some time ringing relatives and friends to arrange visits with more success than we had previously before receiving a call from Mick’s old school friend, Roger who invited us round to his place for a coffee.

Roger lives with his wife Sue in a lovely spot overlooking a wooded area called Saville’s Spinney. Unfortunately the Spinney is so named because William Spinney murdered his wife and 3 children there in 1844 by slitting their throats for which he was hanged.

Also unfortunately 17 people were killed or died soon after being crushed in the crowd which gathered to watch the execution. Anyway, I digress.

We enjoyed watching a variety of birds feeding in the garden including Woodpeckers, Goldfinches, Magpies, Jays and Blue-tits. The Blue-tits were nesting in Roger and Sues’s garden in a nest box on the side of the neighbour’s garage. They have young chicks which they were feeding. We watched them for a while before Mick belatedly decided to go and get his camera hence only one picture.

Lyn was very pleased to see that they had a Nespresso Coffee Machine which was the same model that our son has. They are much cheaper to buy in the UK as are the capsules so we were able to have a lovely cup of coffee.

We then returned home to rest up before going out for an evening meal in the village with Edna, Sue and Roger at Ashmores Restaurant in Radcliffe on Trent.

As the restaurant was in the village, we were able to walk there which improved our appetite.

Without exception the meal was lovely and we would recommend the restaurant to anyone.

Not only was it a great meal but the company was great as well. What more could you want.

Afterwards the girls walked home whilst Roger and Mick took the Mercedes (of course) and we all had coffee at Edna’s.

Edna's back yard has a dual railway line running past the bottom of her garden but when all the windows are double glazed, who cares
