Wednesday 10 July 2013. Overton. Grosvenor Garden centre and cafe, dog bath

Todays weather

The word on top of the card is the name of a Welsh town. Can you  pronounce it?

Yet another warm day forecast with increasing cloud and we headed off to visit the award winning Grosvenor Garden Centre in Chester which was on the other side of Wrexham.

In line with many garden centres over here, it was a huge place selling just about everything and it had a very nice café.

There were areas selling ladies and men’s clothing, BBQ’s, garden furniture, heaps of perfumed stuff for freshening the air, a big pet section including an area selling stuff to feed the birds which is a big industry over here.

They also sold very realistic decorative garden animals including  pets and wild animals. It was a fascinating place. Oh, it also sold heaps of plants, shrubs and trees.

In the evening when Geoff came home from the wood yard/mill we washed the Max, the 11 year old labrador staying here whilst Matthew (Geoff and Davina's son) and family is on a fortnights holiday in Majorca.

Geoff takes him to the wood yard every day and  Lyn had  been complaining that he was very dirty and smelled badly. Lyn and Davina bought a bottle of dog wash from the supermarket as Geoff said he was going to use washing up liquid!

After he had finished he was a different coloured dog. He didn't like being rinsed with cold water though.

When we got here Mick noticed he had trouble walking and may have arthritis and he told Geoff and Davina that he was overweight. The result of this was that they put him on a diet and after two weeks he is quite a bit more sprightly.

The problem is that when he goes back home this weekend he will again be eating lots of extra food as he eats all the bread and other stuff that Matthew, Heather, Alex, Teague, Drew and Ted throw out for the birds.

You wouldn't know it by looking at the photos of Geoff washing the dog but he is suffering from Polymyalgia rheumatica which causes him extreme pain and he is on large doses of Prednisolone which is the standard treatment for it.

Mick and Geoff went down to the Boat Pub by the River Dee for a pint last night. Very nice down there and not far from home.

$1450 for this
