A late start today due to us
having little sleep at the Ramada Encore Hotel in Haydock 14 miles from Liverpool. As on the previous night despite us being on
the third floor we were kept awake by thumping music below. This time though
the noise came from a wedding reception and the music continued until about 1am.
Just when we thought the
noise had stopped, all hell broke loose in the car park of the hotel just under
our 3rd floor window.
We got up to see what was
going on to find the bridesmaids and the groomsman in a huge
row with each other. They were all obviously drunk and after lots of screaming
and shouting (mainly the bridesmaid) a few punches were thrown.
One of the women was holding
a small child whilst this was going on and it continued for about 40 minutes
until Mick had had enough and rang reception to complain. He told reception
that we had had enough of the noise and wanted a refund for our nights accommodation.
The receptionist said she would speak to the manager about it but she wasn’t
there at the moment. Mick told her to do just that and get back to us.
The male receptionist came
out to try and calm things down but got abused by the group of about 10. So he
retreated inside and it continued so he came back to try again and by telling
them that there had been complaints they started to say “Shhh to each other.
Very comical.
At one point the bride came
out still in her wedding dress and started to cry so a couple of the bridesmaids comforted her for a while.
Anyway they soon went back to
fighting until after about an hour and a half they started to break up as a taxi
arrived to pick up some of them.
It wasn’t until about 2.30am
that the last one disappeared inside the hotel to their rooms, and then they were running up and down the corridors talking very loudly.
We both thought the whole
episode was disgraceful as is the front of the hotel, with all the cigarette butts and papers left there by 2 nights of partying.
When morning arrived we were
buggered having had very little sleep so decided to stay home to watch the German
Motogp race from Sachsenring. Two of the top riders, Danny Pedrosa (Honda) and
Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha) were not competing due to broken collar bones which made
the race very interesting.
After the race Mick went down to see what was going on and asked the lady standing by reception to speak to the manager. The lady said that would be me so Mick told her why and she said, “Oh, I’m only the assistant manager and she apologized and said she would pass it on to the other manager (who wasn’t there at the moment).

We are still waiting.
We then decided to go into
Liverpool to catch the hop on, hop off bus to take us on a tour of Liverpool city. Mick found on the Internet where the bus
stops and where the closest car park was to one of the stops and we headed off,
parked and caught the bus which cost £6 each for a 24 hour ticket.
After doing a 50 minute
circuit, we got off the bus and walked through the centre of the town enjoying
the people and the shops as it was a warm day with a cool breeze.
Lyn called in to the spec
saver shop to get the frames of her new glasses adjusted (free) as she told
them she bought them at Spec Savers in Australia. Mick thought it was
cheeky but they obliged.
We then went to Maccas grabbed
a salad burger, sat and ate it and then headed back to the hotel.
We leave here tomorrow and heading
north to the Lake District where we have booked a self-catering cottage for a
week overlooking Lake Windermere near
Ambleside.
According to the O2 (the
company providing our mobile service and ISP) coverage charts, we will only
have phone coverage and NO data so the blog may be a bit erratic for the next week.
The Ramada Encore Hotel in Haydock. No airconditioning, no ventilation leading to corridors full of stale air and hot rooms (windows can be opened but there is nowhere for the air to flow to). If the weather is hot, don't stay here, particularly on the top floor.

we have heard about this incredible heat wave hitting the UK. People are flocking to the beach at 30C and schools are closing. Such wooses! I rarely go to the beach if it is less than 35C as it is too cold. A lot of European hotels don't have aircon but some will supply you with a fan. Reminds me of one visit in Russia where we were put in a room that caught the sun all day and was boiling hot. I had to bribe the desk woman to be moved to a room facing North, much cooler, no sun and no air conditioning but not needed.
